I've got a question: What brand of brushes do you use?
They seem very flexible on the one hand but also pointy so that you can paint details on the other hand, which I consider as very useful. I have never seen such brushes in any art stores though.

Yay I'm so glad you did a tutorial - I was hoping you'd do one eventually! :D

You have wonderful control - you let the inks bleed, yet they don't just become a mess, they blend just enough. I noticed that you hold the brush down really close to the bristles most of the time. Also you hold the brush more like a pencil than the traditional brush-grip, I think?

Do you use a masking fluid or wax crayon for the fine white areas, like the lines on the sleeve?

I wish I could do something half as good as that :'(

Certainly, my usage is near how with the pencil.

I hardly use masking. It is only a picture here that used masking in the current picture.[link]

Always thank you for being interested in my picture =D

But I feel so inferior to the magic that Muttiy does... =(

...Muttiy is so good, really knows how to let the watercolor do what watercolor does best.

I use Holbein brand gouache and watercolor, and arches cotton paper. =)

Heh! Muttiy-san is truly amazing. But her art is impressive to me in a different way. Muttiy seems like she could wash an entire piece of paper, get out a brush, and paint something fabulous even so. But your watercolors have an amazing controlled--and yet understated--look to them. The colors are always exactly in their appointed place doing exactly what they're supposed to do with the perfect amount of saturation. And yet you still manage to do those perfect gradients that I strive for when shading.

In your sailor starlight pic, for example, the way you've done the vinyl is just so amazing. There's no bleeding from the black into the white, but there's still an awesome gradient of black directly adjacent to the white highlights. In "Utena and Anthy's Future", the skin has absolutely perfect gradient shading, you can't see a "line" between where the shading ends and the base color for the skin begins. Also, the colors just look really vibrant and consistent. It almost looks like your colored that composition in frakking photoshop!!!!

Right now I'm working on a sailor starlight pic (it's a fan senshi.) I'm just praying that my vinyl is pulled off half as decent as yours (guess whose picture I'm looking at for inspiration, lol.)
